1-Chuen trecena daily digest: begins 28 September 2015

The pontiff went back West

“I hope as a brother of this country to offer words of encouragement to those who are to guide the nation’s political future, in fidelity to its founding basis.”

– Pope Francis (9-Caban), 23 Sept. 2015 @ the White House

In his quote above, does his eminence (who by mere accident shares his Tzolkin birthday (9-Caban) with Walter White, Gustavo Frig, and Richard Dawkins) actually reveal a strong support of the US constitution?

Does fidelity to founding basics mean financial independence and the abolition of the central bank? Could be. Pope Francis did mention greed and unbridled capitalism as evils that requires immediate curbing.

Apropos, “Fidelity” is a masonic keyword, repeated thrice before closing a lodge.

He also referred to himself as a brother of the US, offering advice to its leaders. Well, besides being widely used among black Americans, ‘brother’ is the basic title of each person attending a masonic lodge. This brother then proceeds to give his advice (i.e., his orders) about staying loyal to ‘founding basis’ – most of which were penned into American law and consciousness by freemasons.

A brother of the faith. Whatever faith. Family is, after all, stronger than faith, and ‘brother’ is a word almost as loaded as ‘sister’.

Two days later he was the keynote speaker at the UN General Assembly. Masonic overtones continued to come up, most notably at the very closing of the speech, when he blessed the assembly thus:

“Upon all of you, and the peoples you represent, I invoke the blessing of the Most High, and all peace and prosperity. Thank you.”

– Pope Francis 25 Sept. 2015 @ the UN

‘the Most High’? I remember once I was really high, and that’s all I can remember about it. But ‘the Most High’ is someone obviously much more important and grandiose. It’s a politically correct and pluralist referral to God, which in fact is chanted in each masonic meeting.

“All glory to the Most High.”

But before his final blessings, Pope Francis shared many of his views and opinions about the global issues currently requiring attention. Climate change seemed to be pivotal among his international interests – an issue which was not raised when addressing the US, for some mysterious and maybe unimportant reason.

Is global warming a hot, positively trending project on the UN’s priority list? The pontiff said that earth itself has rights that must be respected, as if earth was another human being like you. All good and well, considerate and crucial.

What doesn’t make much sense is that only citizens have rights, which are graciously bestowed upon them by their elders and betters – the people who rule them. Who is the one so graciously bestowing rights upon the planet itself? Why, it’s the same crowd again.

What about aliens and disclosure? Could that finally melt all nationality and human identity with Land? How about global terrorism? Or a natural disaster?

Could it possibly be something that has nothing to do with de-population, brother?

1-Chuen_NewForm

The biggest trick the devil ever pulled

Last time the Tzolkin was at the current juncture (13-Oc/1-Chuen) was 11 January 2015, which already feels like a decade ago. Why is that?

A while ago, my friend’s 10 year old boy flipped through my cellphone photo gallery in nimble-quick-finger-breakneck speed. It looked like he was watching a stop-motion animated movie of my life in the past few months.

The scenes switched from work-related photos, to family get-togethers, to cute ones of babies and children, back to some important work stuff, and then all of a sudden – the bare limbs of Summer.

… naturally, he was watching the movie backwards, beginning with today’s photos and going back in time.

It made me wonder about this fascination with documentation of experience fragments (also known as Instagram/Facebook photos, What’sApp ad infinitum).

Then IT made me feel guilty about doing all this wondering. Why am I not in the sacred HEre and NOw?

[…]

Then it was time to go back home and load my Pantax with some new ASA 400 film, all ready to shoot some new grayscale negatives I can take back to my lab to develop.

What this soon-to-be teenager guy did with the emotional retainers that over-populate my cloud drive is that he used them as a time machine to quickly go back in time.

When history ends, it does so on a silent note. There is a gap, a hairline fracture in the everyday routine, something which only a few people can become aware of.

Then something new begins; something that finds no real use in history, let alone flash-drive memories.

THE EMPEROR IS ALWAYS NAKED

Extreme seriousness, displayed today in all newsrooms, eventually dissolves tomorrow into some bad joke – into a twist in the plot. As Michel Foucault (11-Imix, coming up) once said:

“The game is worthwhile insofar as we don’t know what will be the end.”

Because nobody knows what will be the end of anything, there is always a gap through which the unexpected can sneak in. New ideas, mindsets, solutions and philosophies are constantly bubbling under the surface, searching for this elusive gap, and for the right timing – simply because there is a gap.

New threads of reality are now being woven by the unknown artisan.

They are the threads of exposure.

Under the Hood

The previous trecena (1-Edznab) marks the end of the first Tzolkin semester and the current one (1-Chuen) marks the beginning of the second. In other words – the end of winter and beginning of spring. In the solar year, this is called the spring equinox, since the day and night are of the same length. This midpoint of balance exists also in the Tzolkin, since the count of days before 13-Oc and after 1-Chuen are also the same (130).

The Mirror of Reality (1-Edznab ) took me on a sharp and introspective voyage deep inside my mind and soul. To find my way out the other side I now employ the guidance and beauty of the artisan monkey Chuen, also known as the Weaver of Time.

1- Chuen is located around the dead-center of the Tzolking round. After inhaling there is an opening — a Gap. After exhaling there is another one. So it is in the 260-day round. Breathing is interacting with the world; the spaces between breath-pulses is interaction within.

This is consistent with the fact that artistic (Chuen) expression begins from within.

1-Chuen: Seed of imagination

Born on this day: Ronald Reagan (40th US president), Roland Orzabal (Tears for Fears), Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode), Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys), Winston Burdett

"No hidden catch, no strings attached. Just freelove." - Dave Gahan (1-chuen)

“No hidden catch, no strings attached. Just freelove.” – Dave Gahan (1-Chuen)

Being well aware of his/her own little imperfections and evils, the artist finds a sublime/sublimated way to harness maladjustment and flaw to create something new, beautiful, and meaningful with slender fingers – something that’s a little closer to perfection.

Both the artist and artisan (who are considered to be one and the same according to the Mayan philosophy) share this trait of truth-seeking. Some artists dedicate their talent to exposing and accentuating what’s wrong in their world. Their presented artwork is an original and fresh display of sanity and truth for everyone to digest, within works of prose, comedy and art.

The artist’s hallmark is an innate ability to rearrange existing materials and ideas in a unique and imaginary way, which actually creates a new reality. S/he takes ideas and perspectives, which were collected during 1-Edznab and before, and weaves them like fresh and colorful threads to create a new tapestry of existence. When existing threads are entwined with new ones – patterns that were never seen before begin to take shape.

1-Chuen is the right time to begin viewing the old and mundane through the curious eyes of a child, who cannot accept a fossilized definition of reality and needs to experiment. It is the perfect time to reinvent myself and redefine the meaning of innocence. To a child, most of reality is interesting and engaging. It seems that there are always new things to create out of the old, and novel experiences are waiting just around the corner.

*

Here is Dave Gahan (1-Chuen), the lead singer of Depeche Mode, singing “Freelove”:

“If you’ve suffered enough

I can understand what you’re thinking of

I can see the pain that you’re frightened of…

Let go of complicated feelings

Then there’s no price to pay.”

2-Eb: Road less traveled

Born on this day: Ben Stiller, Stan Laurel, Steve Gadd, Mark Grace, Bob Fosse

Road less travelled

“I feel like a mile-high pastrami on rye, on the fly from the deli in the sky!” – Ben Stiller (2-Eb) as Alex the Lion in Madagascar

Originality is not a result of comparison; it is an extension of individual uniqueness. Unique talent begins taking form right after the tendency to compare myself to another (or to my past or future self) is overcome. When I begin to follow my own art and viewpoint, moment-by-moment, a new road is blazed, branching off from the one I traveled so far.

On 2-Eb I become aware of my separation from the well-trodden path, and there comes a longing to return to the familiarity and safe shores of whatever’s left behind. In addition, Eb’s humble nature teaches me that art can be found everywhere, even in a simple word.

I realize today that I cannot actually tread another’s road. It’s always been my way, even when it ran parallel to my ex-girlfriend’s way or anyone else’s. TV might convince me that a particular viewpoint I hold TODAY resonates with a couple of middle-aged commentators, who used to be generals. It might even resonate with the masses who are standing under a particularly-colored flag.

The artist’s way is a continuous nurture and celebration of the unique, the subjective, the beautiful.

**

And now for some Steve Gadd (2-Eb) and Paul Simon (2-Edznab) counting the ways to get yourself free from old attachments:

“And then she kissed me, and I realized she probably was right…”

3-ben: Rhythmic Reed

Born on this day: José Mourinho, Joni Mitchell, Sarah Alexander, Pete Sampras, Erwin Schrödinger, Marina Sirtis (ST-TNG), Brendan Gleeson, Achinoam Nini, Jim Henson, Carl Benz

"Multiplicity is only apparent, in truth, there is only one mind." - Erwin Schrödinger (3-ben)

“Multiplicity is only apparent, in truth, there is only one mind.” – Erwin Schrödinger (3-ben)

The 3rd stage of the trecena can be referred to as the driving force behind the process. It takes the theme of stage 1 and challenges it (Ben-east vs. Chuen-west here) in all respects in order to create a background rhythm. 3-Ben provides rhythm to my artistic expression by applying a conduit of destiny between the physical and the spiritual.

The artist within is never content with past achievement and so s/he continuously channels his/her visions down to earth. In turn, these manifested works of art spark spiritual visions and experiences for the artist and the audience. Therefore, 3-Ben can be depicted as a dynamic triangle connecting the Artist, the Audience, and the Art.

***

Here’s Joni Mitchell (3-Ben) singing the ballad of Amelia Earhart (10-Manik, 6 days ago):

“I’ve spent my whole life in clouds at icy altitude
And looking down on everything, I crashed into his arms.”

4-Ix: Define art

Born on this day: Viggo Mortensen, Mark King, Emilio Estevez, Paul Simonon (The Clash), Elia Kazan, Ivo Pogorelić

"He was an arch-manipulator of actors' feelings, and he was extraordinarily talented; perhaps we will never see his like again." - Marlon Brando (9-Cib) commenting on director Elia Kazan (4-ix)

“He was an arch-manipulator of actors’ feelings, and he was extraordinarily talented; perhaps we will never see his like again.” – Marlon Brando (9-Cib) commenting on director Elia Kazan (4-Ix)

In order to convey a coherent message, the urge for artistic expression must be applied within the boundaries of skill. The artist is not necessarily a virtuoso, but rather one who is aware of both his/her strengths and weaknesses. This is the message of 4-Ix. S/he is a master of the subtleties of skill required to turn meandering musings into art that is communicative both within and without.

What further defines the true artist and his/her work is the mystery and inexplicable nature of the Jaguar (Ix), which seems to affect me indirectly, unexpectedly, and profoundly. What is audible in a musical piece only scratches the surface, while the underlying composition and silence between notes eventually taps into and feeds the elusive unconscious.

****

Here’s the song “Running in the family” sung by Mark King (4-Ix) on bass, shining among many other stars:

“And we all have our daddy’s eyes…”

King’s slap technique is phenomenal, especially when considering the fact that he’s singing on top of his playing. Bass guitarist usually don’t do that, since they must be very precise in their playing, to support the band from below.

5-Men: Eye-Power

Born on this day: Muammar Gaddafi, Moshe Dayan, US Civil War began, Xander Berkeley (Year One), Eckhart Tolle

"If you want to make peace, you don't talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies." - Moshe Dayan (5-men), in an interview with Newsweek, 1977

“If you want to make peace, you don’t talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies.” – Moshe Dayan (5-Men), in an interview with Newsweek, 1977

The 5th stage is when the cardinal direction of the trecena (in this case – west) reappears for the first time, and its purpose is guidance and empowerment of the process thus far. The eagle (Men) contributes to the overall artistic transformation process through the gift of vision and freedom.

Vision is the undefined message-in-the-making, which guides artistic expression throughout, from the first brushstroke to the final finishing touch. It begins with an idea that the artist just has to enclose within a vehicle and express to the world. During the course of artistic expression, and with continuous clarity of vision, this idea is refined and honed.

Besides vision, true art means expression that is unique and altogether free from existing convention. Emotional tethers such as fear of rejection can never inspire sincere expression.

Without the eagle’s eye there can be no such thing as creativity.

OK, I ran out of musicians. Back with more music on 7-Caban…

Instead, here’s a voice from the underworld. Muammar Gaddafi (5-Men) gave this speech to the united nations back in 2009 on the Tzolkin date 2-Men. Get a glimpse of what he saw back then, and how it’s all still playing out on the global stage today:

6-Cib: Traditional Art

Born on this day: Oliver Stone, Neve Campbell, Tommy Lee Jones, Kenneth Branagh, James Earl Jones, Edward Bernays, Don Cornelius (Soul Train), Chad Wackerman

"I have weapons you would not dare use. Fear rules man... I will infest the spirit of man so that he uses his science and logic to destroy himself." - James Earl Jones (6-cib) voice-acting the red wizard Ommadon in Flight of Dragons, 1982

“I have weapons you would not dare use. Fear rules man… I will infest the spirit of man so that he uses his science and logic to destroy himself.” – James Earl Jones (6-Cib) voice-acting the red wizard Ommadon in Flight of Dragons, 1982

Wisdom is the deep and sacred repository of our ancestors that can be tapped only from within. At stage 6 the sun-sign of wisdom (Cib) provides much-needed inner strength, so that my personal creative process of reinventing myself continues to flow on.

The essence of Cib means being very aware of limits and staying pragmatic. 1-Chuen’s message of self expression doesn’t mean producing a masterpiece every single day – that’s a typical misconception of many aspiring young artists. Later down the line of maturity, the artist realizes s/he must create more and judge less, or at least – don’t allow judgement to interfere with his/her work. On this day, cib’s practicality dictates keeping it real and refraining from overdoing it.

|*

And now for some Shakespeare. Here’s Kenneth Branagh (6-Cib) playing Hamlet, along with Billy Crystal (6-Ik) as the gravedigger and Nicholas Farrell as Horatio. Indicative of the sun-sign cib, Branagh delivers a sensitive eulogy to his childhood friend – the court jester Yorick, and discusses the limits that death places upon kings and peasants alike:

7-Caban: Earth’s axis

Born on this day: Bill Evans, Richie Blackmore, Shaul Mofaz, Jeff Suppan, Davy Jones (The Monkees)

Caban is the incense of thought rising up to the heavens.

Caban is the incense of thought rising up to the heavens.

Like 7-Kan in the previous trecena, 7-Caban resonates closely with the overall frequency of the Tzolkin half-time break (7th uinal), and marks the final 4 introspection and reflection days of the current uinal.

Caban represents profound sensitivity – an integral component of art, facilitating the subtleties of its creation and the depth of its appreciation. At the 7th stage, this aspect provides purpose to the entire artistic process, and connects conception with manifestation.

In addition, 7-Caban reflects individual expression on a global scale. This means that truth and beauty expressed through art have no borders of land or language. It is simply a pristine reflection of human experience.

From the perspective of the entire Tzolkin round, now is the chance to survey this amazing scenery one last time; a sight which can never be repeated after beginning to come down and manifest. Everything is visible for the first (and last!) time – where I come from and where I am going.

|**

It’s oddly comforting to find the lead singer of a band called “The Monkees” born on the monkey trecena, don’t you think? The singer in this next one is actually the Monkees’ drummer Micky Dolenz (9-Ahau) and not Davy Jones (7-Caban), but I just had to select this next one:

“I’m a believer I couldn’t leave her if I try…”

8-Edznab: Mirror of Harmony

Born on this day: Angela Merkel, Suzanne Vega, George Harrison, Charley Boorman, Ayelet Zurer, Ephraim Kishon, Jorge Posada, Wesley Sneijder, Marcel Marceau

"Without freedom the human mind is prevented from unleashing its creative force." - Angela Merkel (8-edznab)

“Without freedom the human mind is prevented from unleashing its creative force.” – Angela Merkel (8-Edznab)

8-Edznab literally means infinite/harmonious reflections. Reality is a mirror, my internal world is a mirror, my art reflects my psyche, my relationships with other humans reflect to infinity. They all interrelate and synchronize to distill truth.

In Clint Eastwood’s movie Midnight in the garden of good and evil Kevin Spacey (10-Ben) said:”Truth, like art, is in the eye of the beholder.” Before the beholder comes along, truth and art abide side by side in the artist’s heart. S/he always knows when s/he’s faking it, or not going all the way in putting the whole truth across, or worse – trying to be someone else.

8-edznab establishes coherence and clarity within the smallest details and around the whole message.

|***

Here’s George Harrison (8-Edznab) learning the sitar with Ravi Shankar (8-Cauac):

9-Cauac: Almost rain

Born on this day: Muddy Waters, Ray Brown, Ted Turner, Laurie Anderson, Michael Richards, Kaká, Mike Dirnt (Green Day), Sarah Silverman

"Well my mother told my father just before I was born 'I got a boy child comin', gonna be, gonna be a rollin' stone" - Muddy Waters (9-cauac), Rollin' Stone 1950

“Well my mother told my father just before I was born ‘I got a boy child comin’, gonna be, gonna be a rollin’ stone” – Muddy Waters (9-Cauac), Rollin’ Stone 1950

9-Cauac is a gift of perspective, patience, and constant improvement. The artist’s heart never grows old. As long as their bodies can support them they’ll be engaged in the creative process, they’ll have something new to contribute. When they perfect a piece, or bow down before a cheering audience – there’s always something new to learn, some little piece of performance that they’d like to improve next time.

This is the essence of cauac, especially 9-Cauac in this particular trecena.

10-Ahau: Illumination

Born on this day: Pope John Paul II (died 5-Ahau), Edmond de Rothschild, Graham Chapman, Asdrúbal Cabrera, James Van Allen, Annabella Sciorra (Sopranos), Tricky, Mike Patton (Faith no more), François Mitterrand, Viktor Schauberger

"Man is called to a fullness of life which far exceeds the dimensions of his earthly existence, because it consists in sh aring the very life of God." - Pope John Paul II (10-ahau), Encyclical Evangelium vitae

“Man is called to a fullness of life which far exceeds the dimensions of his earthly existence, because it consists in sharing the very life of God.” – Pope John Paul II (10-Ahau), Encyclical Evangelium vitae

This is the last day of the 7th uinal.

10-Ahau is the day the magical art of 1-Chuen manifests. It’s a day to take a step back and appreciate beauty. It’s a very real and physical kind of illumination, which serves to apply creativity to everyday concerns and needs.

In addition, 10-Ahau introduces lofty expectations on the day of manifestation. In other words, once a new creation is complete and available it can be criticized or praised.

Ahau types usually pay attention to the criticism…

||

Here’s the late (but always on time) Graham Chapman (10-Ahau) trying to convey to the masses the one thing they can never digest:

“Look, you’ve got it all wrong. You don’t need to follow me. You don’t need to follow anybody! You’ve got to think for yourselves. You’re all individuals (Crowd: Yes, we’re all individuals). You’re all different (Yes, we are all different). You all have to work it out for yourselves… Don’t let anyone tell you what to do!“”

11-Imix: Upgraded beginning

Born on this day: Michel Foucault, Sarah McLachlan, Simon Le Bon, Joan Baez, John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Manu Katché, Shirley Manson (Garbage), Roger Taylor (Queen), Eliot Ness

"What is true for writing and for a love relationship is true also for life. The game is worthwhile insofar as we don't know what will be the end." - Michel Foucault (11-Imix) interviewed in "Truth, Power, Self".

“What is true for writing and for a love relationship is true also for life. The game is worthwhile insofar as we don’t know what will be the end.” – Michel Foucault (11-Imix) interviewed in “Truth, Power, Self”.

11-Imix basically means back to school after enlightenment manifested. Imix accentuates the anti-climax theme of the 11th stage of resolution. It’s like an artist coming back home after attending the opening of his gallery showcase – to find a big empty canvas waiting on his easel.

Under the Hood

The 8th uinal begins today.

Everything you ever read about stage 8 (8-Edznab – see above, 8-Lamat, 8-Eb, etc.) is true for the 20 days of the 8th uinal beginning today. This is an aspect of the holographic nature of time and creation as a whole: whatever’s true for micro-time (day-level) is also true for macro-time (20-day uinal, 360-day tun, 7200-day katun, etc.). Likewise, an atom is a universe in itself.

Keywords for the meaning of the 8th stage (a.k.a. 4th Night): harmony, infinity (horizontal 8), balance, order from smallest details to the overall unity.

||*

And now for some Simon Le Bon (11-Imix) and Duran Duran live on stage:

12-Ik: Deep Idea

Born on this day: Sarah Jessica Parker, Al Pacino, Derek Jeter, Roger Federer, Liam Hewlett (Pridigy), Ron Perlman, Jon Polito

"You need people to interchange with, interface with, connect with. Together you’re going to make it, you’re going to do it together, you’re going to put it on, whatever it is." - Al Pacino (12-Ik) in Producing Off-Off-Broadway (2007)

“You need people to interchange with, interface with, connect with. Together you’re going to make it, you’re going to do it together, you’re going to put it on, whatever it is.” – Al Pacino (12-Ik) in Producing Off-Off-Broadway (2007)

The language of art is universal.

A good piece of music reflects truth beyond and before dissecting it into words of appreciation or critique, as does an inspiring sculpture or a good-tasted necklace. On 12-Ik a deep understanding dawns, which involves the wind’s lack of boundaries.

When my communication is artful, i.e., when my art is true in its form and content – there is no frontier on earth that can stop the global spreading of its truth. No language, no distortion, no subversion, no firewall – nothing.

13-Akbal: The Story

Born on this day: Al Di Meola, Neil Simon, Michael Caine, Courtney Love, Diane Keaton, Lee Strasberg, Rabin assassination (born 12-Eb)

"If you can go through life without ever experiencing pain you probably haven't been born yet. And if you've gone through pain and think you know exactly why, you haven't examined all the options." - Neil Simon (13-Akbal) in The Play Goes On

“If you can go through life without ever experiencing pain you probably haven’t been born yet. And if you’ve gone through pain and think you know exactly why, you haven’t examined all the options.” – Neil Simon (13-Akbal) in The Play Goes On

13-Akbal means encapsulating the art lessons of the last fortnight within a fable, to be retold and reflected upon later down the road, especially on moonless nights, by the fire.

13-Akbal also provides the infrastructure upon which a creative future is built. It expands the artful method into perpetuation.

Art has its place and time, and must now dissolve into the next trecena – the seed of basic abundance. The next stop on the journey through time is the most balanced trecena of them all, during which the Tzolkin new year takes place.

||***

Here’s Al Di Meola (13-Akbal), at the tender age of 27, playing solo acoustic guitar in front of a whole lot of people. Around the 5:35 minute mark a dog walks across the stage while Al is playing. His reaction, and that of the crowd, makes me laugh every time. He does regroup quickly and continues his dazzling playing:

1-Lamat trecena daily digest: begins 8 May 2014

When the credits come up at the end of the feature the theater lights are turned back on. It’s time to get off your seat and walk out into reality, pondering the make-believe experience you just went through.

It fades so fast. Five minutes ago you were still riveted to your seat, living some other life. Now you try to grasp at stale excitement, an elusive odor that is now obsolete.

“Baby I’m a star!” – Prince (12-Cauac)

World – keep on turnin’

I'm so darn glad HE let me try it again,
'cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin.
I'm so glad that I know more than I knew then.
Gonna keep on tryin' till I reach the Highest Ground.
- Stevie Wonder (3-Eb)

1-Lamat: Starseed

Born on this day: Roger Daltrey, Avril Lavigne, Willem Dafoe, Rene Russo, Tiffani Thiessen, Keith Allen, Engelbert Humperdinck

Starseed

“I can go anyway, way I choose. I can live anyhow, win or lose. I can go anywhere, for something new. Anyway, anyhow, anywhere I choose.” – Roger Daltrey (1-Lamat), Anyway

1-Lamat begins the trecena of the Spiritual abundance embodied by the maturity of learning yesterday’s lessons to the letter. It is the last chance to gather insights and precious lessons from the current frame of awareness. Beginning May 21st (1-Imix), the Tzolkin autumn will begin, and it’ll be time to manage the seeds that are collected Now.

It is the last trecena of the round, located in the 13th uinal a.k.a. Saturday. The resolutions I decide to focus upon are all going to be packed and shipped over to the next Tzolkin round. These will then be unpacked according to my personal sequence, and applied to my future reality.

Stage 13 is the equivalent of the Fruit stage of the natural cycle in the Flora domain. So what do I do with fruit? I can eat it, save the seed for next season, or let it rot on the vine or the on ground after falling under the tree.

So, metaphorically, these are my options regarding whatever my awareness picks up during the next 12 days. Let’s say I’m 3 months after finishing a house renovation. A good friend shares his experience and viewpoint and singles out an idea I can implement to make my home even more beautiful, efficient, practical – whatever.

I can disregard it, I can “consume” it right now and get my ladder and tools, or I can just keep it for the next round of renovations.

Who’s watching me watching you?

Every star has two sides to it – two observers. You never really know who’s looking down at you from the night sky. There are so many of them; there are so many of us. The multiplying aspect of Lamat means that the more convinced I am about something – the more surprised I’ll be one day when I realize that the opposite view can be just as convincing.

This Lamat duality is especially potent where Lamat rules – the 13th Uinal. It is the dilemma between fruit and seed, between One and Thirteen and back again.

2-Muluc: Wet Moon

Born on this day: Mickey Rourke, Madeline Kahn, John Travolta, Omar Hakim

Wet Moon

“But the servant must wait, while the master bates.” – Madeline Kahn (2-Muluc), History of the World Part I

Boy, 2-Muluc. If there ever was a day in which José Argüelles came up with the idea that Muluc is the moon – it would be today.

The moon reflects the sun as water does. The moon draws and releases bodies of water.

2-Muluc is recognizing this feminine heartbeat that’s so easy to overlook. For the star (Lamat) to become a near source of Light (Ahau) it must first recognize the pattern of reflection in this world; the play of origin and destination. The key for achieving this realization lies in Muluc – one of the 3 Gathering signs in this trecena (along with Ix and Cauac).

Muluc tells me that gathering begins with a true intent of gratitude and sharing later. The Offering of water means that I’m gathering water not just for myself and my own, but as an offering to another or to the Divine. This liberation from personal indulgences creates a gap in mind and awareness.

When I gather just for my own survival my awareness is not the same. When I gather through Muluc I allow new available space in my being. This space wiggles and vibrates with refreshing overtones, as all new space does, and gives me the gift of adaptability. These two ingredients – the gap and the fluidity – are exactly what creation needs to present me with new abundance in places I never knew before.

3-Oc: Omni-Love

Born on this day: J. Robert Oppenheimer, Nelson Mandela, Eddie Murphy, Annette Bening, Chico Marx, Newt Gingrich

OMNI-LOVE

“(- Now, then, baboons, what is a corpuscle?) – That’s Easy. First ‘s a Captain, then ‘s a Lieutenant then ‘s a Corpuscle.” – Chico Marx (3-Oc), Horse Feathers

Whatever you come across as News, my advice to you is to take it with a pinch of ridicule and doubt. Why? Well, yesterday was 2-Muluc, dealing with illusions that inhibit thankful sharing. Tomorrow will be 4-Chuen, realizing that not taking things too seriously leads ultimately to the truth (11-Edznab) and enlightenment (13-Ahau).

But hey, besides the serious Oppenheimer 3-Oc seems to be about something very funny and liberating. Nelson Mandela is still inspiring good people today, and so do Eddie Murphy and Chico Marx.

Under the Hood

Yesterday’s dilemma is resolved by today’s sun-sign Oc and its message of Love and loyalty, along with the 3rd stage of rhythm and motion.

The Dog has similar meanings in various cultures. In Islam he’s the one animal admitted into heaven. In the Greco-Egyptian stream the Dog is Sirius the faithful dog-star (duo-star, to be exact) that faithfully affects affairs down here on Earth from millions of light-years away.

According to other studies it is also associated with the planet Mercury, governing faithful communication of knowledge and wisdom.

In the Book of Numbers (12:4) Caleb Ben Yefune was one of the twelve scouts who “went in front of the camp” to tour the promised land. Ten of the scouts reported high impregnable walls and towers, a host of giants, advanced war machinery and a big useless desert. Two scouts, Caleb and Joshua were the only ones who told the people that the land is good, and that any adversaries there are no match for them. As a reward, they were the only two who were admitted into the promised land, as the old generation of the Desert all died away.

In Hebrew, Caleb (or Kelev) means Dog, and the word itself can be meaningfully divided: Lev means heart and Ke-lev means ‘all heart’ or ‘as a heart’.

For the Maya Oc carries a torch in his jaws and leads the way for Man down the dark labyrinth  of the underworld.

All this symbolism makes perfect sense, and it comes together to stand for the kind of love and devotion that goes beyond Death. When coupled with the 3rd stage, which is the fuel that drives the next 10 days – I get something very romantic and warmhearted.

It feels like the right key ingredient during the current edition of Ascension by Dawn.

best-friend Comedians

Here’s Chico (3-Oc) Groucho (6-Ahau, previous trecena), and Harpo (4-Ik) Marx in Horse Feathers, during a college biology lesson:

4-Chuen: Fantasia has no Boundaries

Born on this day: Trey Parker, Tina Turner, Mark Margolis, David Bowie, Marie Fredriksson (Roxette), Sean Connery, 1st Atomic Bomb (Hiroshima)

FANTASIA HAS NO BOUNDARIES

“Oh man, look at those cavemen go! It’s the freakiest show.” – David Bowie (4-Chuen), Life on Mars

Chuen is the spirit of art and craft, and today it appears on the trecena of the Star to become a what’s called a Rock-Star. You know, like Ziggy Stardust.

Art assumes a stable expression on 4-Chuen; firm foundations of creativity to build upon. Hence – Rock (solid)-Star. It originates from love (Oc), transmutes loyalty to others into loyalty to a higher self, and thus enhances creation by adding a weaving motion to the flow of time. Chuen weaves ideas into the tapestry of existence, and turns mundane time into a play of destiny.

It is said that a true artist is the one who makes obvious something that was completely disregarded. Well, when the artist manifests and then wanes the Road (Eb) becomes clearer.

Going back to the cultural discussion under 3-Oc, it seems that Chuen embodies the other aspect of the planet Mercury (the first being faithful communication – Oc). This other aspect deals with the craftiness, playfulness and ingenuity that complement and are the result of the first aspect.

Here’s Marie Fredriksson (4-Chuen) and Roxette in an inspiring song:

Listen to your heart

There’s nothing else you can do

5-Eb: Man’s Stairway

Born on this day: Ron Paul, Dwight D. Eisenhower (34th US President), Fred Alan Wolf, Mike Myers, Claus von Stauffenberg, Rev. Jim Jones

MAN'S STAIRWAY

“BIBLE – Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth” – Mike Myers (5-Eb), The Love Guru

On November 18th, 1978 Rev. Jim Jones (5-Eb) led his sheepfold to mass suicide, emulating the desperate story of Massada from the 1st century CE. He was the kind of leader that could actually pull that kind of sacrifice off on a grand scale. He shares his Tzolkin birthday with two other common-people leaders: Ron Paul and Ike.

Another 5-Eb heroic failure would be Claus von Stauffenberg.

5-Eb means knowing how to find and follow your one true path of integrity and purpose, which must always lead upwards and onwards, like a staircase. Having established Chuen in the previous stage, I now return to the theme cardinal direction for the first time (south) and incorporate the essence of Eb in order to walk the path of the Stars.

5-Eb also means knowing what moves you forward and what keeps you back, as the Buddha once said (Buddha being the Hindu name for Mercury). Since Eb is a sensitive and communal sun-sign, those boosters and obstacles can be the subtlest things – an orchard in bloom, a far-away snow-capped peak, an off remark.

Rather than keeping things hidden inside, today I share my thoughts about where I am and where I’m heading. I pin-point the landmarks that offer promise, and those that present challenge. I rally my tribe to follow me down the star-spangled path of the universe.

You know, like Ike.

6-Ben: Staff of Tradition

Born on this day: Andy García, Meat Loaf, Beck, John McEnroe, Mayer Amschel Rothschild, Graham Hancock

STAFF OF TRADITION

“I really love that Rock n’ Roll!” – Meatloaf (6-Ben) as Eddie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show

I think you have to be born on a Ben day to be the head of a distinguished family dynasty, like old Mayer was in the mid 18th century. He raised his five daughters and five sons – literally raised them, as any spiritual ladder/leader does; from the ghetto to the very top of the world.

Of course, the five sons in particular were his life-long project. In due time, he sent each son to a different country in Europe in order to establish a financial and political beachhead. All five sons succeeded beyond imagination. When the French Revolution came along the family business got a boost from supplying Britain with mercenaries – a business move many think they still use today.

In his recent book, Kenneth Johnson depicts Ben-types as being insatiable at their worst. They can never quite get enough of anything. Does this trait fit Mayer’s card by some strange coincidence?

Biographies aside, 6-Ben embodies a unique mix of tradition (6) and family (Ben). These two words seem to go along well together, and share a mutual web of meaning. As opposed to the example I gave above with Rothschild and the extremities of the Ben aspect, 6-Ben is a balanced and nurturing mother – the kind of guiding light of the family and home that Ian Lungold talked about. She draws her power from the last Eastern sign we had – Muluc, and her every action is dedicated to elevating herself and her family.

Here’s Beck (6-Ben) doing “Deadweight”:

This music video has scenes from the movie “A life less ordinary” (1997). Amazingly, it includes 3 people born on the same trecena: Beck (today), Cameron Diaz (10-Caban) and Ewan McGregor (12-Cauac).

Don’t let the Sun catch you crying…

7-Ix: Magic Mountain

Born on this day: Muhammad Ali, Sarah Palin, Waco siege end

MAGIC MOUNTAIN

“I’m the greatest thing that ever lived. I’m so great I don’t have a mark on my face. I shook up the world.” – Muhammad Ali (7-Ix)

After 2-Muluc, the second Gathering sun-sign in this trecena appears on stage Se7en. Ix is the sign of magic and of skill. It embodies a gathering of spiritual potential.

The Starry Shaman 7-Ix lives on the top of the Magic Mountain. He shows me the path that I’ve walked so far, through 19 trecenas, and teaches me that the ultimate purpose of the journey is something magical and profound, something that’s lying in ambush for me on the next Tzolkin round.

Muhammad Ali (7-Ix) interviewed before and then right after his “Rumble in the Jungle” bout with Foreman in Zaire: “I’ll TKO him. Humiliation will stop this fight!

8-Men: Forever Vision

Born on this day: Bryan Adams, Émile Zola, Gates McFadden (Star Trek TNG), Swami Vivekananda, Dr. Sanjay Gupta (CNN, 60 Minutes)

Forever Vision

“In a day when you don’t come across any problems — you can be sure that you are traveling in the wrong path.” – Swami Vivekananda (8-Men), Pearls of Wisdom

On January 6, 2009, CNN announced that Gupta had been considered for the position of Surgeon General by President Barack Obama.” – Wiki on Gupta

I think Gupta can make a dandy Surgeon General. Big pharma and big medicare have nothing to worry about. NOT!

Panoramic vision is one of the gifts that the Eagle was given by the Maker. This aspect is true for all Men days, but 8-Men has a special twist to it.

Let’s say I have panoramic vision but at the same time I’m also biased towards a particular course of action. I will probably use my vision to pursue that course without considering alternatives. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to it.

8-Men doesn’t have that problem. Since this kin is multiplied by Lamat’s energy, and ultimately leads to enlightenment (13-Ahau) it has no permanent bias to speak of. It is an idealized version of Men that is totally free on all levels because of its fine balance.

Jesus, meet Krishna

On September 11th 1893 (2-Men) Swami Vivekananda (8-Men) took the stage at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago, representing India and Hinduism, and gave the following famous speech:

Some say that this speech brought the spiritual philosophy of the sub-continent to the West for the first time. Well, I’m not too sure about that, but I’m pretty sure it’s the first time an Indian guru was recorded on tape, speaking to some seven thousand people in Illinois.

9-Cib: Wisdom of Patience

Born on this day: Tori Spelling, Warren Buffett, Marlon Brando, Gabi Ashkenazi (previous Israeli Chief of General Staff)

Wisdom of Patience

“After all, we’re not murderers, in spite of what this undertaker thinks.” – Marlon Brando (9-Cib), The Godfather

Warren Buffet (9-Cib), the Godfather’s aura has been dispelled. Take a seat.

The cardinal direction of the trecena appears again today, 9-Cib. This day has a special emphasis on our ancestors and on honoring their memories and wisdom (even more than other Cib days).

Honoring fore-bearers and parents is a value that is common to all mankind, and it seems to be indispensable. If I thought I can do without it when I was a child, chances are I’ll have no choice but to do without it when I have my own children (because they’ll do the same to me). When my parents are no more I will think about the honor I gave them while they were around. I’ll face the mirror with my own children, and strive to create something new with them.

Since the next stage is manifestation, stage 9 stands for the actions and factors that lead to it. It is always close to the now, but not quite (t)here. The wisdom and tranquility of our ancestors (Cib) is the same. It is available to me through reminiscing at any given time, but it’s already disembodied and above the material plain, so it’s never here.

Maybe this is the reason why Kenneth Johnson points out that the Nine days are usually reserved for remembrance  rituals, taking place in graveyards and memorial sites. I assume that 9-Cib and 9-Ahau are especially devoted to those, and for good reason.

10-Caban: Universal Heartbeat Now

Born on this day: Chris Noth (Sex and the City), Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Avigdor Lieberman (Israeli Secratery of State), Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (Incumbent Turkish PM), Marco van Basten, Lara Logan

UNIVERSAL HEARTBEAT NOW

The Star (1-Lamat) manifests as the Global Heartbeat (10-Caban)

Lara Logan (10-Caban) was born 2 days after Sanjay Gupta (8-Men) according to the Tzolkin. They are both doing very well in the mainstream media. I wonder where they draw their lines of integrity. Does their Boss help them draw it?

One aspect of Caban has to do with frequencies, modulations, and harmonics. The rules that govern these sciences seem to permeate and remain relevant on all planes and spectra.

For example, in harmonics there is a term called resonance. Resonance appears in music as well as in color. It manifests in network meetings under pavilions and during live performances on stage.

It happens when I write something and you know what I mean.

But always, every time the trecena chimes Ten – responsibility dawns. Other 10’s might take a break. Not 10-Caban. Since it carries within it the resonant message of all previous manifestations, 10-Caban chooses responsibility every time. It’s very logical to do so. It is the only thing conceivable.

11-Edznab: Tomorrow’s Mirror

Born on this day: Britney Spears, Condoleezza Rice, Kiefer Sutherland, Dominic Monaghan (portraid Merry in LOTR 2001-3), Chris Farley

Tomorrow's Mirror

“I can get a great look at a t-bone steak by shoving my head up a bull’s ass but I’d rather take the butchers word for it.” – Chris Farley (11-Edznab)

I wouldn’t bet on an end-date if I wasn’t willing to gamble on the extraordinary off-chance. You know, like Kiefer Sutherland (11-Edznab) did in “Flatliners” back in 1990.

But then, coming back to reality, I count numerous “end dates” that came and went in the past. The usual example would be the Y2K bug, but there were famous men and women of divination that clearly marked a certain date for something extraordinary to happen, on cue. And then that date came and went into obscurity, followed by the fame and name of the professed prophet.

However, I only need one end-date to be correct in order to manifest this long-awaited “Event”. I’m sick of waiting and I have no more fear of catastrophes. But most of all, I’d like an end-date to be true in order to, ultimately, have it behind me already!

I can go on and on, by the way – going back and forth between heart and mind, cause and effect, Orient and Occident. The mirror does that to me.

In essence, 11-Edznab means Reality as a twist in the plot, as an anti-climax. The key question 11-Edznab asks me regarding my preoccupation with end-dates and prophecies that work is – Then what? You still need to clean up, remember? Don’t you know the destiny of Man?

I mean, think about it. Just about now – aren’t you in a mood for another Adventure?

Rhythm is a dancer

Shlomo Bar (11-Edznab) is a Moroccan-born musician who wrote the music for an 80’s band called “The Natural Selection”. His fellow band members were from many different countries, including India, Israel, and Iraq. Here he is  singing “Yeladim ze simcha” (Children are happiness):

12-Cauac: Purple Rain

Born on this day: [music] Prince, Miles Davis, Antonín Dvořák, Alban Berg, Butch Vig (Garbage, “Nevermind” producer), Jonas Hellborg; [stage/screen] Steve Martin, Peter Sellers, Kyle MacLachlan, Ewan McGregor, Tim Allen; [politics] John C. Breckinridge (14th US VP)

Purple Rain

“If I can’t really find a way to live with myself, I can’t expect anyone else to live with me.” – Peter Sellers (12-Cauac), The Hollywood Book of Extravagance

The third and last Gathering sign is Cauac – rain clouds are collecting water and bringing a storm of Purification and freshness.

Whatever transpired around the vernal equinox is already yesterday’s news. Today I understand the deep meaning of being cleansed; of preparing happily in the bathroom for an amazing night out with some neighborhood demigods.

ATHEISTS got no song

Before signing off, here’s the indestructible Steve Martin (12-Cauac) singing about the Atheist’s angst:

13-Ahau: Everything is Satisfactual

Born on this day: Ethan Jesse Coen (younger brother of filmaker duo), Ron Howard, Alan Arkin, Nigel Terry, Arjen Robben, Japan surrenders 1945, Bob Dole

“Today, freedom is on the offensive, democracy is on the march.” – Douglas MacArthur (4-Edznab) in his WWII Victory broadcast, on 5-Edznab

13-Ahau. Clock strikes 13, it is almost tomorrow.

Stage 13 undoubtedly affects the following stage 1. One is never a beginning. It is a seed of yesterday’s fruit.

Could it be that 13-Ahau is the fruit of the entire round that’s ending? Could it be exercising its effect on the entire round to come?

If it does, then any other day on the Tzolkin must do the same.

The Tzolkin round is circular and endless. I apply beginning dates and end-dates just so I’ll be able to grasp its dance somehow. A dance that cannot be frozen inside a word for more than one day.

However, taking this powerful masculine sun-sign Ahau and coupling it with number 13 must mean something. The same goes for tomorrow: 1-Imix – the young alligator in the swamp marks the beginning of Fall.

1-Chuen trecena daily digest: begins 11 January 2015

1-Chuen_NewForm

The biggest trick the devil ever pulled

Last time the Tzolkin was at the current juncture (13-Oc/1-Chuen) was 26 April 2014, which already feels like a decade ago. Why is that?

Today, my friend’s 10 year old boy flipped through my cellphone photo gallery in nimble-quick-finger-breakneck speed.

[…]

Then it was time to go back home and load my Pantax with some new ASA 400 film, all ready to shoot some new color negatives I can take back to my lab to develop.

What this soon-to-be teenager guy did with the emotional retainers that over-populate my cloud drive is that he used it as a time machine to go back in time quickly.

“Man is called to a fullness of life which far exceeds the dimensions of his earthly existence, because it consists in sh aring the very life of God.” – Pope John Paul II (10-Ahau), Encyclical Evangelium vitae

Ahau types usually pay attention to the criticism…

||
